Update:  As of January 13, 2025, the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County has burned over 23,700 acres and is 14% contained.  The fire has destroyed more than 5,000 structures and resulted in eight fatalities. Firefighters have made progress in containment efforts; however, strong Santa Ana winds forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, with gusts up to 75 miles per hour, pose a significant threat to worsening the situation. Authorities have issued evacuation orders affecting over 92,000 residents, with an additional 89,000 under evacuation warnings.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives probing possible human origins.  The estimated damage ranges between $250 billion to $275 billion, potentially making it the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history.
