New Orleans Attack Prompts Sugar Bowl Rescheduling – Financial Business Times

The attack on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning left 15 dead and dozens injured. Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a truck into a crowd, prompting an FBI investigation into the incident as a potential terrorist act. Law enforcement confirmed Jabbar’s death at the scene.

Update: Notre Dame upended Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, delivering a decisive 23-10 victory and proving their mettle in the College Football Playoff. With their misfit mentality, the Irish are now set to face Penn State in the Orange Bowl, one step closer to a national championship.

The decision to postpone the game came as law enforcement resources were redirected to manage the crisis. Jeff Hundley, CEO of the Sugar Bowl, noted the necessity of ensuring public safety before proceeding with the event. WDSU reported on the ongoing discussions with local, state, and federal authorities regarding the situation.

Both universities involved in the game have expressed their condolences and support for the victims. The University of Georgia assured its community of assistance, while Notre Dame called for prayers for those affected. The Sugar Bowl, a longstanding tradition in New Orleans, will still celebrate its 90th anniversary with the rescheduled game.

The Superdome, hosting the game, is also set to be the venue for the upcoming Super Bowl LIX. The Sugar Bowl’s winner will advance to face Penn State in the Capitol One Orange Bowl on January 9.
